At Peoples Bank, we are proud of our heritage and our history of community banking. There is nothing we love more than partnering with other businesses that also have a long history of serving the community. Few have served the community the way that East Pines Animal Clinic has.
After watching his father work out of the house as a second-generation veterinarian since 1946, Jeff Mauck joined the clinic in 1975 as they opened their first stand-alone office. The clinic was primarily treating large feed animals, including the livestock at 30+ dairy farms and the Evansville Stockyards. They worked long hours but supported the livelihood of the local farmers. Today, East Pines has transitioned to serving small animals, mostly pets.
The veterinarian community in the area was (and still is) very close. Jeff says, “Their intentions are always what is best for the animals.” Other veterinarians would send referrals to each other. When Jeff first opened the clinic, many of the veterinarians who his dad was friends with would send certain cases to Jeff as they were getting older. He was the young-gun in town and he was more willing and able to do certain procedures that the older vets were struggling to do. Now, the clinic gets referrals because of the specialists working in the clinic, like Sara.
Sara Mauck Burns, the daughter of Jeff and a fourth-generation veterinarian, grew up watching her dad work with the animals at the clinic and would often find herself helping out. She began attending college as a pre-med student but found that as a human surgeon, as Jeff likes to call them, the work is highly specialized. She switched to pre-vet and graduated from Purdue’s Veterinary School. Sara now works along-side her dad treating animals every day as well as specializing as a veterinary surgeon.
East Pines Animal Clinic – 466 W. SR 62 Boonville, Indiana
The value East Pines brings to the community has only grown over the years. In the fall of 2019, they built a new facility with offices, an updated and pet-friendly lobby, 12 exam rooms, and 3 specialty surgery suites. Jeff and Sara are joined by 4 other full-time veterinarians which include specialties in surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology. These specialties are rare in communities this size. The cost of specialty vet service is often significant just because of the in time off from work and travel. With East Pines located in Boonville, local pet owners don’t have to travel 2-3 hours to specialists in Indianapolis or Louisville to help their pets. East Pines is close to home and experienced.
When East Pines has upgraded their facilities, they have relied on Peoples Bank for support. In 2008, there were instrument and equipment upgrades Sara wanted to use when she joined the facility. Jeff told her to make a list of upgrades and not to worry about the financing. He knew Peoples would be there for them. When they built their new facility, the specialist vet clinic contractor suggested other financial firms. Other community banks were unable to offer what was needed. Peoples Bank was able to help.
