Announcing Our West Side Micro Branch!
Peoples Bank to Open New Micro Branch Concept on Evansville’s West Side
[Evansville, Indiana, August 2022] – Peoples Bank is excited to announce plans for a new micro branch on Evansville’s West Side at 4502 W Lloyd Expressway.
Peoples Bank has served the Tri-State area since 1895 with four current locations in Warrick and Vanderburgh counties. The West Side location will be Peoples second branch in Evansville after opening on N. Green River Rd in 2021. This location will bring a new approach to traditional branch banking in this area with a much smaller and more efficient footprint, enhanced building practices, and plans to be net-zero with the addition of solar panels on the roof.
“We’re building this branch to serve all our existing customers on the west side without the need for a large or expansive footprint,” said Chief Banking Officer Dan Hendrickson. “We’re focusing on efficiency and passing the savings on to our customers.”
Partnering with LA+D, the new branch is slated to open in 2023. The building will reflect the modern design of the N. Green River Road location and will have Universal Bankers and a Personal Banking Officer to offer all of Peoples Bank’s deposit and lending products, including their premiere home loan product, the Main Street Mortgage.

East Pines Animal Clinic
At Peoples Bank, we are proud of our heritage and our history of community banking. There is nothing we love more than partnering with other businesses that also have a long history of serving the community. Few have served the community the way that East Pines Animal Clinic has.
After watching his father work out of the house as a second-generation veterinarian since 1946, Jeff Mauck joined the clinic in 1975 as they opened their first stand-alone office. The clinic was primarily treating large feed animals, including the livestock at 30+ dairy farms and the Evansville Stockyards. They worked long hours but supported the livelihood of the local farmers. Today, East Pines has transitioned to serving small animals, mostly pets.
The veterinarian community in the area was (and still is) very close. Jeff says, “Their intentions are always what is best for the animals.” Other veterinarians would send referrals to each other. When Jeff first opened the clinic, many of the veterinarians who his dad was friends with would send certain cases to Jeff as they were getting older. He was the young-gun in town and he was more willing and able to do certain procedures that the older vets were struggling to do. Now, the clinic gets referrals because of the specialists working in the clinic, like Sara.
Sara Mauck Burns, the daughter of Jeff and a fourth-generation veterinarian, grew up watching her dad work with the animals at the clinic and would often find herself helping out. She began attending college as a pre-med student but found that as a human surgeon, as Jeff likes to call them, the work is highly specialized. She switched to pre-vet and graduated from Purdue’s Veterinary School. Sara now works along-side her dad treating animals every day as well as specializing as a veterinary surgeon.

East Pines Animal Clinic – 466 W. SR 62 Boonville, Indiana
The value East Pines brings to the community has only grown over the years. In the fall of 2019, they built a new facility with offices, an updated and pet-friendly lobby, 12 exam rooms, and 3 specialty surgery suites. Jeff and Sara are joined by 4 other full-time veterinarians which include specialties in surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology. These specialties are rare in communities this size. The cost of specialty vet service is often significant just because of the in time off from work and travel. With East Pines located in Boonville, local pet owners don’t have to travel 2-3 hours to specialists in Indianapolis or Louisville to help their pets. East Pines is close to home and experienced.
When East Pines has upgraded their facilities, they have relied on Peoples Bank for support. In 2008, there were instrument and equipment upgrades Sara wanted to use when she joined the facility. Jeff told her to make a list of upgrades and not to worry about the financing. He knew Peoples would be there for them. When they built their new facility, the specialist vet clinic contractor suggested other financial firms. Other community banks were unable to offer what was needed. Peoples Bank was able to help.
Peoples Bank is proud to support East Pines Animal Clinic. If you have a commercial banking need, we would be proud to partner with you, too. Contact our Commercial Lending Team today at 812-942-4550. Visit East Pines Animal Clinic at eastpinesanimalclinic.com.
Why is RIGHT NOW a good time to take out a mortgage at Peoples Bank!
Buying a home can be a whirlwind. There are so many moving parts and it can feel like things are moving by faster than you can keep up. One of the largest factors in your home buying experience is who you choose to provide financing for your home. Maybe we’re a bit biased, but we believe that our lenders are the best in the biz. Here are three reasons you should choose Peoples Bank for your mortgage.
We service ALL of our mortgages.
Did you know that many financial institutions don’t service your mortgage for the entire life of the loan? Often, your loan is sold to a larger, third party financial institution. So, instead of doing business with the bank you first chose you’re suddenly doing business with whoever purchased your loan from the originator. You’ll have to change how and where you make your payments, you may have to sift through menus and machines to find anyone to talk to, and there is always the chance it gets sold again. The personal touch is gone.
At Peoples, we service every loan we make for the entire life of the loan. So, if you have a question about your mortgage you don’t call a hotline. You don’t sift through menu options to find the correct department. You call the lender who helped you choose your mortgage and sign the papers. Straight to the phone on their desk. When we say you aren’t just a loan at Peoples, we mean it. We really are here to help you every step of the way. Beginning to end.
There is no PMI required for our mortgages.
What exactly is PMI? If you haven’t bought a house you might not even be sure. PMI is private mortgage insurance. It is insurance for the lender to help cover their costs in case you default on your loan. It doesn’t help prevent you from defaulting or facing foreclosure and it doesn’t protect your credit score. It is protection solely for the lender that you pay. It shows up on your monthly mortgage payment and could increase your monthly costs up to hundreds of dollars. Typically, a lender won’t require it if you put 20% down. Some lenders allow you to stop paying it after you have at least 20% equity in your home, but that is often only done through red tape.
With the Main Street Mortgage, the premiere mortgage option at Peoples Bank, you can borrow with as little as 10.1% down and have NO PMI requirement! That is more money staying in your pocket every month!
Rates are great!
It is a good time to take out a mortgage! Rates are low for financing your new home or refinancing your existing home. At the time of this post, your rate can be as low as 2.50%/2.59% APR**! You can lock in that rate by coming in today and starting the process with one of our lenders today!
Interested in applying for a mortgage or refinancing?
Call us today at 812-842-BANK!
*Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is accurate as of 7/22/2021 and subject to change. Assume 80% loan-to-value, 15 year fixed rate, amount financed: $200,000, APR: 2.59%*, 180 monthly payments of $1,333.58. Offer is subject to credit approval. Closing costs apply. Homeowners Insurance is required. Property taxes and homeowners insurance are not included in payment example. Contact a tax advisor for possible tax deductibility of interest. Paycheck Protection Program
UPDATE: The SBA has currently closed applications for PPP Loans. For further assistance, please contact our commercial department.
The 2020 CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act introduced the Paycheck Protection Program to provide American small business with 100% federally guaranteed loans. Billions of dollars assisted small businesses with funding to keep their doors open and their employees on payroll through these forgivable loans.
Peoples Bank was able to help many customers in the Warrick and Vanderburgh County area apply for and receive these loans. As a new stimulus package arrives in 2021, we are able to continue assisting businesses to apply for the second round of PPP loans.
The second round of PPP loans is available to new PPP borrowers AND borrowers who received a first round PPP loan. Eligibility and application processes have changed but the team at Peoples is ready to help business owners determine their options. You may qualify! Let us help determine your eligibility!
Peoples Bank understands the value of small businesses in our community. As a locally owned bank, we are one of you. We have seen the struggles the local business community has faced in the last year and are here to help you and your business through 2021. The PPP process is new and constantly being updated, but we are here to help walk you through process. Local, personal, and 1-on-1 service is available through Peoples Bank.
To submit your application or answer questions on the PPP process, contact our Commercial Lending Team today at 812-942-4550 or at commercialprocessing@ptsb-in.com.

Mulberry Jeans Accents

Gina McCallister – Mulberry Jeans Accents
Nearly 20 years ago, Gina McCalister sat down for lunch with her mother in Downtown Newburgh. Her mother and grandmother had both owned gift shops, so when Gina told her mother she was bored in her corporate job her mother had one suggestion. Quit. Open the gift shop you’ve always wanted to open. Conveniently, there was a space for lease across the street. After lunch, Gina walked across the street to see what the rent was and was told by landlord said he had someone already interested, but if they backed out it was hers. After not hearing anything, Gina assumed that the lease was signed and it just wasn’t the right time. Then on the birthday of Gina’s grandmother, who is also the namesake of the shop, the landlord called and offered the space to Gina. Mulberry Jeans Accents opened and has remained a mainstay in Downtown Newburgh for the last 17 years.
First opening as a only a gift shop, Mulberry Jeans Accents has changed over time. Gina, a tea enthusiast, admits that the scariest thing to come out of her mouth is “I have an idea.” After moving to her current location at 600 State St in Newburgh she expanded her offering and started selling tea and coffee in addition to a full array of gifts. What was originally supposed to be a spot for the guys to sit and chat while their wives shopped the store has become a much larger part of the business. The shop has several fresh ground coffee options as well as 70 loose leaf tea’s and added a sunny room to the north side of the building to host tea parties three years ago.
This year has brought new challenges to keeping the shop running. While the store was closed during the COVID shutdown, Gina hosted pop up shopping events on Facebook and increased coffee and loose leaf tea options on the website. Learning how to pack, ship, and deliver products to keep her products in the hands of customers was exhausting but has kept the shop in business. Managing the expenses of shipping has led to more deliveries being done in the area. It’s meant a lot more time in the car, but it has also given Gina an opportunity to bring a special connection as she builds relationships with her customers.
That same personal service is what Gina enjoys as a customer at Peoples Bank. “Everyone is always willing to help. Updated COVID-19 Precautions
Beginning Saturday, November 21, 2020, Peoples Bank will be closing our lobbies to transactional walk-in customers.
We are trying to do our part in protecting our employees, our customers, and our community. We also realize that our customers still rely on our services. We want to do everything we can to continue to provide those services so that our customers can still manage their money, pay their bills, run their businesses, and go about their day to day business. So, we are still here even though it looks a little different.
If you have a transaction that would usually require a visit to the teller line then you can still see our tellers in the drive through window at each branch. You can also utilize our online banking and mobile app where you can transfer money, make mobile deposits, and manage your account.
If you need a loan officer or need to open an account, you can still schedule an appointment for anything that cannot be done over the phone. Social distancing and masks are still required, we still have our barriers on all of our desks, and everyone who enters our building (visitors and employees) gets a temperature check and answers exposure questions.
Thank you for cooperating and working with us! We appreciate your business and are here to do whatever we can to help! Our goal is to serve you as best and as safely as we can!
Meet the Team: Lisa Thornton
Since 1988, Lisa Thornton has been an important member of the team at Peoples Bank. Starting out as a bookkeeper, then a teller, Lisa now spends her days helping customers as a customer service representative at our Boonville branch. Lisa grew up in Boonville, graduating from Boonville High School, and worked at a grocery store for 9 years until she started at Peoples. She enjoyed it so much, she has stuck around for the last 32 years. She says that, “it’s a wonderful place to work!”
While Lisa says that her fellow employees are like family, she’s also proud to connect with her customers and their families. Seeing customers come in with their kids and grand kids to open accounts with her makes her feel like she can help make an impact on their family. Even when a family member passes away, Lisa is there to guide the family through managing their loved one’s accounts. She wants to be there for her customers in good times and bad. Customers can feel all kinds of emotions when they come in, but Lisa wants the be sure that when they leave her office they feel like she has cared for their needs.
Lisa and her husband Jim are the proud parents of two daughters, Allison and Amanda. Much of their time has been spent wedding planning this, as Amanda was married in April and Allison is getting married in November. Lisa and Jim have also enjoyed traveling in their camper. Most trips have been fairly local in 2020, but they have plans to take the camper all the way to Florida soon.
Whether you need a new checking account, a savings account, a CD, a credit card, or any of our other products, come by the Boonville office and speak to Lisa. She’ll be glad to help you with whatever you need.
Peoples Bank employees help bring home a piece of WWII history!
Peoples Bank employees have been very excited to be involved in the arrival of the Republic Air P-47 Thunderbolt Tarheel Hal to the Evansville Wartime Museum. During WWII, Evansville became a wartime manufacturing hub. The city produced many different product for the war, including LST ships, .40 cal ammunition, and over 6,000 P-47 Thunderbolt fighter planes.
The P-47 Thunderbolt flew it’s first mission in March 1943 in a fighter sweep over France. With it’s powerful engine, strong weaponry, and sturdy frame, the Thunderbolt was used in combat over Europe and the Pacific and quickly became the USAAF’s primary fighter-bomber. It racked up 3,752 air to air kills and destroyed over 150,000 rail cars, locomotive, armored vehicles, and trucks.
The Evansville P-47 Foundation formed in February 2020 in order to bring a P-47 back to Evansville. Different groups over the years have had a similar goal, but the foundation found and was able to secure the Tarheel Hal, a P-47 that was built in Evansville in May of 1945.
On September 17th, the Tarheel Hal flew home from Houston, TX to the Evansville Wartime Museum. Celebrated by hundreds as it flew over Evansville and Dress Plaza, it landed at the airport just across the street from where it was manufactured. The tristate is proud of the legacy the Tarheel Hal represents. Hard working people who came together to support their country in times of struggle.
Peoples Bank was, and is, proud to be involved with the organizations that brought the Tarheel Hal home. Dan Hendrickson, Director of Marketing and Business Development, serves on the board of directors for the Evansville P-47 Foundation. David Arthur, Marketing Manager, served on the marketing committee for the foundation and flew with P-47 in the chase plane to photograph the Tarheel Hal’s flight. Kyler McReynolds, Assistant Branch Manager at our Paradise branch, serves on the board for the Evansville Wartime Museum.
To see the Tarheel Hal, make a reservation to tour the Evansville Wartime Museum at www.evansvillewartimemuseum.org. You can also support the continued fundraising efforts for the plane at www.bringevansvillep47home.org.

Meet the Team: Ben Sparrenberger
If you have been to our State Street location, chances are you have met branch manager Ben Sparrenberger. With an infectiously positive attitude, Ben has been serving the customers of Peoples Bank for 7 years. A lifelong native of Evansville and graduate of Harrison High School and the University of Southern Indiana, Ben had considered a career in banking since childhood. During a mini economy project in the 5th grade, he was assigned to be a banker. “Apparently it’s always been in my head to be in banking. I just didn’t realize it until I was older” he said. Ben studied Radio and Television in college, but met Peoples Bank CEO Mark Hendrickson while working a customer service job outside the financial industry. That conversation eventually led to a career in banking. Now Ben is happy to spend his days helping customers with mortgages, checking and savings accounts, and whatever else needs done to lead the team at State Street.
Ben takes pride in what Peoples Bank can offer customers at the State Street location, which is the only banking facility in downtown Newburgh. He is excited to see his regular customers and honored that they trust him enough to recommend their friends and family to Peoples. He’s worked at other banks that are focused on selling more and more products to customers, but he’s glad to be at Peoples where he says the focus is on “building a relationship instead of just a transaction.”
Outside of work, Ben enjoys going on walks with his wife, Lori, and their scotty dog, Lucy, listening to his collection of vinyl records, or watching YouTube videos about the car and airline industries. Ben and Lori also spend a lot of time with Lori’s sons, one of whom is in the marching band at Harrison High School and the other is working for Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch in Indianapolis. He also serves on the board of directors for the Newburgh Museum, just a short walk from the branch.
If you are looking to take out a mortgage, a home equity loan, open a checking or savings account, or sign up for one of our new credit cards go see Ben and the rest of the team at the State Street branch of Peoples Bank! Or give Ben at a call at 812-942-4602!
Banking During COVID-19
This year has brought new changes to our daily lives that we never expected. We have been through outbreak, shut down, mandates, and uncertainty with this pandemic. While medical professionals across the globe are trying to learn how to treat, manage, and stop the spread of the coronavirus the rest of the us are learning how to continue our daily lives with these new guidelines. At Peoples Bank, we’re here to help you with all your financial needs in the safest way possible. We are still offering all of our services to our customers while avoiding close contact and following health guidelines. Here’s how we’re are doing that.
All of our employees are wearing masks every day. We have also asked that our customers are wearing masks when they enter. Masks are available at the front door if needed. We have installed Plexiglass barriers between teller windows and the desks of our lenders and customer service representatives to protect our employees and our customers. We are social distancing within our offices and have floor markers in place to encourage our guests and customers to do the same. Hand sanitizer is also available at the door. If you have a need that must be addressed inside of the branch, we want to make sure that it is done safely.
There are also many options to avoid physically coming in to the branch. Our drive up windows are available any time the branch is open, so anything that you would need to do at the teller window can be done without leaving your car. Our mobile app and online banking are both available 24/7. The mobile app allows you to check your balance, transfer between accounts, deposit checks, send money to other people, find an atm, and more. Our online banking system does all of those things as well as online bill pay, order new checks, track your transactions, and keep track of your budget. They are both very powerful systems that allow you to do most of your banking from anywhere at any time.
New Branch Announcement
We’re excited to announce that after serving the Warrick County community for the last 125 years, we are expanding into Vanderburgh County in 2021!
Construction is underway for our new location at 2201 North Green River Road in Evansville. We’ve partnered with LA+D and Arc Construction to build a facility that brings a modern vision to our century old bank. There will be an open floor plan, modern amenities, and new technology in the Evansville branch without forgetting the personal, hometown feel of familiar faces and strong customer service that is already found in our other locations.
“This new facility will allow us to bring our friendly, hometown approach of banking to the Evansville market” said Dan Hendrickson, Director of Marketing and Business Development. “We are eager to establish this modern physical presence to more conveniently serve our Vanderburgh County customer base.”
The new location is expected to open in the Spring of 2021. For more information about our accounts or loan options, please contact Aaron Garrison, Business Development Officer for the new Evansville branch.
